Who Needs the Discovery Channel?

This past weekend we went camping near Castaic Lake, a reservoir about 40 miles north of Los Angeles. Our campsite was a large group site (yes we went with a group of friends) overlooking the lake.

We hadn't been at the campsite long before we were treated to a sight that you might think you would only see on TV or in an encyclopedia. It was a large tarantula hawk wasp, dragging along a tarantula it had stung. Check out the wikipedia post on this wasp, especially the parts about its sting and about what it does with the tarantula.

Of course we would be derilect in our duty as bloggers if we didn't take some video footage. Here it is:

n x 1.6 km (for n>1) loves camping. CED liked it too. At least when the sun was up. He tromped all over the campsite. He even taught himself how to go down stairs. Of course he couldn't learn on some nice carpeted stairs inside some building. It had to be these stairs:

Once it was dark and he had to go to sleep in a tent, CED didn't like camping so much. The tent made him claustrophobic and even once we got him to sleep, he woke up every couple of hours. It was a long night for all of us.

Little Monkey

Here are 3 reasons NOT to own furniture. Enjoy!

CED has expanded his slide climbing abilities to many other forms of furniture. It is now impossible to sit on the computer chair if he is in the room. He insists on being put onto our laps and then he climbs onto the desk.
