Adv Photography HW #3 & #4

Here are the pictures from my 3rd and 4th Advanced Photography assignments.

Homework #3: Black & White Night Photography - The hardest part of this assignment was figuring out places to go that I wouldn't feel like I was going to get mugged while taking pics on my own at night.

Tip about getting the starburst effects: Wider angle for you lens with small aperture (f stop).

Sorry. Had a bunch of stuff on my lens. Still a nice picture though.

Don't the library stacks just look like they are waiting to be read?

Experimented with a bit of light painting over the long exposure. Funny story about this shot. I don't own any high heeled shoes of note so I called a girl from church who is always wearing high heels to borrow them. I think she thinks I'm crazy or has some weird shoe fetish! :) During the long exposure, I shined a flash light in a circular pattern around the shoe.

Homework 4: ND (Neutral Density) Filters - These filters block light and allow you to take longer exposures. This allows for effects in smoothing out clouds, water, movement, etc. and makes it so the light doesn't blow out in the pic. They have graduated ND filters and full filters.

This picture was so bright that I had to put a full and graduated ND filter stacked in front of my lens. The filters I have aren't terribly expensive so I threw it into B&W to eliminate the pinkish cast I got from stacking my filters.

Trogdor was hanging out in the stroller while I was taking these and so I had to be quick!!!

Advanced Photography Class (HW#1 & 2)

Last Spring, I started taking Photography classes (Beginning and Intermediate) through the Continuing Ed program of our local community college. I finally started figuring out how to use my Canon T2i DSLR camera and it has been lots of fun. I wasn't able to take the Advanced class because of obligations at church interfering with class times, but this Spring's schedule has worked out so I can take it. Here are my pictures for my first two assignments.

Homework #1: Composition of a given subject - I drew out the subject of Egg from a bag of possible subjects.

This bird nest fell out of our tree last year so I thought I'd put it to good use.

I had an image in my mind of a raw egg cracked into a really fat and long test tube but Mad Scientist didn't have any of those in his lab. So I used this candle holder instead.

 

 

Homework #2 - Architecture - We had to get 6 specific shots of a given building. I took two different buildings and decided on the Castle to show to my class.

Subject 1: Castle building - It's actually the county courthouse and I didn't realize that it was the courthouse so I'm probably on a lot of surveillance videos taking these pictures. It also didn't help that there was a post office across the street. Doh.
