Earth Hour 2011

Saturday, March 26th, at 8:30 - 9:30pm (your time) is Earth Hour. We've blogged about it in the past Here and Here. Again, I know that people have varying beliefs on the environment and how we should treat it. Regardless, we only have one Earth and should treat our resources wisely.

Here's a short 1 minute long video they made that I like. It has a cool bike in it:



The big push this year is to go beyond Earth Hour and move to make changes in our daily routines to conserve resources.

Here are some ideas:
* Recycle
* Take shorter showers
* Try not to waste food
* Consolidate and plan errands so you don't waste as much gas running around (this helps your pocketbook too with high gas prices!)
* Use reusable bags at the grocery store instead of paper or plastic
* Turn off lights and appliances that you aren't using
* Ride your bike! (We're big fans of riding bikes)
* Walk (We're big fans of walking too, if you can. Bonus: It's healthy for you)

Happy, Happy Days!

First and foremost, Happy Pi Day to all! In honor of Pi Day, we had banana pudding pie. n x 1.6 km (for n>1) helped with the meticulous placement of the banana Pi on top of the pie. It was delicious.

For all of you non-math geeks out there, here is an explanation of Pi Day.

Also, in keeping with the round theme, recently, Mad Scientist concocted a masterpiece of deliciousness for me on my birthday. Some of my in-laws K&CD were in town and got to taste a bit of this indulgent cake. It was described as an awesomely delicious cake that was a candy bar in the form of a cake. Or something like that. Maybe CD can clarify her comments. Here's the Recipe from the cooking blog Bakerella. Prepare to salivate when you see the pics.

No, I'm not just 2 years old. We didn't have many candles in the house. :) Yes, those are mini chocolate peanut butter cups cover the top. And yes, that is ganache frosting!!! So tasty!

Holes

About a month ago, I was helping n x 1.6 km (for n>1) get a stubborn knot out of his shoe laces and noticed I could see something that I wasn't supposed to be able to see through the inside of his shoe. Yup. I could see the floor by looking into his shoe. Not a good sign. He had neglected to tell me that his shoes were a bit worn.

Also, n x 1.6 km (for n>1)'s pants seem to grow holes. I ask him frequently if he crawls to school on his hands and knees because this is what happens to his pants.

The darker pair on the bottom left actually do not have holes in them. With all of these pairs, I attempted to put in some iron-on patches on the inside of the knees to avoid holes. Didn't quite work for the other two. It was a good attempt, but didn't stop the holes from growing. And they made funny rectangular shapes on the knee area. Oh well. I should have bought stock in all the jeans making companies out there.

Yep. He'll probably get replacements before Christmas though so he won't have to put front teeth on his wish list.
