More Photography Class Pics

I finished up my beginning digital Photography class in May and I've now started my Intermediate class. Here are some pictures from my assignments that I'd like to share.

Little Baby Somethings

Back in April, I started itching for Spring to come so I was out in the yard clearing out the dried patches of stems in my daylilies. One patch I removed uncovered a hole covered in some fur or something along the opening.

You can't really see the fur a ton here.

Then I peered closer and saw a writhing mass of baby somethings!!!!

This isn't actually our picture of baby somethings, but that's what it looked like.

They were writhing around and I shrieked a bit, because they looked so grubby and gross! I didn't know what they were, but after a bit of research, I discovered that they were baby rabbits. We have rabbits running around our neighborhood and now a rabbit nest in our daylilies.

I put the dead stems back on the nest and backed away. I hoped it was alright since I didn't actually get too close to the nest and I had gloves on.

Anyway. Since, then, I didn't see any baby bunnies emerging and I was worried they ended up dying.  But then guess what we saw today??? About 5 bunnies running around our yard! Yay! They survived and I didn't kill the lot off. Whew. Hopefully they don't get into our garden boxes.

"Barn" Raising

I was chatting with one of my friends the other day and she was telling a funny story about her kids. They moved to Why-Oh-Uh the year before we did and when their children heard they were coming to the Midwest, they fully expected to have a barn in their backyard. They kept asking when their Dad would start building the barn.

It made me start thinking about one of the musicals that we grew up with, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. (It made me think about it so much that I had to re-watch it!) Remember the barn raising scene?

It starts out with some mighty fine dancing:

And ends with an all out brawl with the barn coming down around the brothers and their foes defeated:

Anyway. Our neighbors had this play structure in their yard but all their kids are in high school or college so they asked if we'd like it. YES!!! So, a couple weekends ago, Mad Scientist and our neighbor dismantled the structure and with the help of some other neighbors, reassembled the play structure in our yard. As they were moving the playhouse part of the peaked roof I thought, "It's like we're having a barn raising in our backyard, with all the neighbors around to help!"

The boys have been out there playing so much! They are absolutely thrilled with our playground outside. Just in time for summer! And hopefully the boys won't be so rough to bring down the structure down around their ears.
