Often, people don't know what to do to help change this world to a better place. One answer is to vote! I was not born in this country and in my early life, had to go through the process of getting my US citizenship. It was stressful and uncertain at times. When I finally got my citizenship, I realized my most precious gift of being a citizen was voting.
Currently I'm reading How to Be an Anti-Racist by Ibram X Kendi. It is good in provoking thought (though I feel like some parts could used a good editor.) My main takeaway has been that everyone has a potential to make a racist choice or an anti-racist choice. Any person (white and people of color) can make those choices at any given time. If we choose to support racists policies, then we are acting in a racist way. If we choose to support anti-racist policies, then we are acting in an anti-racist way. If we choose to vote for racists people into power, then we are acting in a racist way. If we choose to vote in anti-racist people into power, then we are acting in an anti-racist way. It was stunning (but not surprising) that Donald Trump could not outright condemn white supremacists at Tuesday's debate. So many of his policies and actions have been obviously racist actions. I hope that in your search for racial justice, you will make choices that will not vote for people who are making racist policies and not striving to make a society with more equity and equality for all people, regardless of the color of their skin.
I challenge you to research the candidates and issues. Register to vote! Vote early if you can. If you don't know the procedure to vote in your state, Stephen Colbert has created a website (https://www.betterknowaballot.com/) that gives you details on deadlines for absentee ballot requests, etc. for your state.
Also, here's a fun get out the vote video by fans of Hamilton. :)
